The #Pray4ThePresident Project: Our Story

“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” 1Timothy 2 1-2 (NLT)

Earlier this year, our small group at Foundry Church in Castle Pines, Colorado began a study on the Biblical premise of honor.  We learned that in order to honor God , we must honor the people that He has placed in our lives.

40 “Anyone who receives you receives (honors) me, and anyone who receives me receives (honors) the Father who sent me."  Matthew 10 40 (NLT)

As we began to dig into this premise of honoring the people around us, those entrusted to us, our peers, and those in authority over us, it became very clear that we struggled the most when it came to giving honor to those who God has placed in authority over us.  We recognized the fact that God empowers all authority and places the people over us whom he desires to be in power.  (Daniel 2:21)We quickly came to the conclusion that dishonoring a person God has placed in authority, even if we disagree with their ideology, is the same as dishonoring God.

All to often, people of faith are known for the things that they are against.  Rarely are they known for what they are for.  With this in mind our group determined to come up with a way to honor authority, and more specifically, to honor our President.  We decided that the best way to do this was to pray for the most powerful man in the free world.

As we discussed our own commitment to pray for the President, we began to realize that if others joined with us, we could have a much bigger impact.  Out of that thought came the idea for us to invite people from all across the world to join on on Sunday, July 5th 2015 in a time of prayer for our President.
