Join us on 07.05.2015 to pray for our President

We believe that we have a Biblical responsibility to pray for those people that God has placed in positions of authority.  During a recent study on honor, our small group at Foundry Church in Colorado, felt a particular need to pray for our President.

We would like for you to join with us on Sunday, July 5th, 2015 in a prayer for the President of the United States.

How you can help:

Here is how one Church will #Pray4ThePresident on 07.05.02015

Here is how one church is planning their ‪#‎Pray4ThePresident‬ service on 07.05.2015. I know this pastor pretty well and think it is a great idea (I am biased though).

          Dear Friends,
In Clear Creek Baptist Church where I pastor, we are going to use the prayer guide on the web site for Pray 4 The President as a guide for our prayer time. You can go to the site, WWW.Pray4ThePresident.com and down load it as well. There are five Scriptures on the prayer guide. On Sunday morning I personally am going to read the first one then lead in a prayer. The chairman of deacons will read the second one and lead in a prayer. Thee other officers in the church will follow in order and read and lead for the other three scriptures.
The more people we have praying in a concert of focused prayer that morning, the better it will be. I would love for you to let me know back if you are going to join us. When you are on the web site, you can join there and we will know that you are involved without emailing me back. Ask as many churches as you know to join us as well.
God bless you and God please bless America with a great spiritual awakening.

How should I #Pray4ThePresident ?

We all know it is a great idea to pray for people.  However, thinking about how to pray for a high profile leader like the President of the United States can seem pretty overwhelming.  How should I pray? What should I ask for? Fortunately the Bible gives us some excellent guidance.

Over the next few days as we lead up to #Pray4ThePresident I'll be highlighting a few things to consider when you pray for the leader of the free world.
  • Pray that the President and our leaders will seek wise counsel - "For by wise counsel thou shalt make war: and in a multitude of counselors there is safety. (Proverbs 24:6)
  •  Pray that they have and demonstrate the wisdom of God -"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5)
These are just a few of many examples from the Bible.  It seems pretty clear that anyone in a position of leadership and authority, no matter how skillful, would benefit from seeking the advice of wise counselors and from asking God for wisdom.  Let's pray that our leaders and President Obama do just that!

Why shoud people #Pray4ThePresident?

A few people who we have asked to join us to #Pray4ThePresident on 07.05.2015 have expressed opinions ranging from concern to dismay.  They may feel that publicly agreeing to #Pray4ThePresident will be seen as a political statement or that they might offend or alienate someone. Fortunately the Bible makes a couple of things clear.

First, all authority comes from God:

He changes times and seasons;  he deposes kings and raises up others.  He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. Daniel 2:21 (NIV)

Second, he wants us to pray for our leaders, regardless of how you feel.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” 1Timothy 2 1-2 (NLT)

Here is an excerpt from the story of how we came up with this project that says it pretty well.

"All to often, people of faith are known for the things that they are against.  Rarely are they known for what they are for.  With this in mind our group determined to come up with a way to honor authority, and more specifically, to honor our President.  We decided that the best way to do this was to pray for the most powerful man in the free world."

What will you do?

Nikita Koloff Will #Pray4ThePresident on 07.05.2015

I am pleased to report that Wrestling Hall of Fame member Nikita Koloff AKA"The Russian Nightmare" will be joining us on 07.05.2015 to #Pray4ThePresident.  It seems pretty surreal that a wrestler who took the role of the a cold war era villain in the wrestling ring, would take the time to #Pray4ThePresident.  However, if you look to Nikita's more recent endeavors and his "Koloff for Christ" Ministry  and it makes more sense.

More recently, Nikita and his wrestling / ministry buddy, Lex Luger AKA "The Total Package", have been focusing their efforts on helping men grow into well rounded followers of Christ through development of mind, body, and soul.   Check out this video for more info on the great work Nikita and Lex are undertaking:

#Pray4ThePresident: Why honoring those in auhtority is important.

A member at Foundry Church sent us an article by Craig Groeschel that does a good job of explaining why we need to #Pray4ThePresident regardless of our political leanings or personal feelings.   Honoring those in authority over us is an important Biblical requirement.

We’re supposed to show honor not only to powerful people in government but to all of those who are in authority over us. If you play sports, show honor to your coach. If you’re a student, honor your teachers. If you have a mentor, show them honor. Honor your boss. Even if you believe deep down that you’re smarter than your boss, you still need to show that person honor. Maybe you’d like to be the boss someday. Before you can learn to be over, you have to learn to be under. Practice being under by showing honor to those people whom God has put over you.
Have you signed up to join us to #Pray4ThePresident on 07.05.2015?
