We all know it is a great idea to pray for people. However, thinking about how to pray for a high profile leader like the President of the United States can seem pretty overwhelming. How should I pray? What should I ask for? Fortunately the Bible gives us some excellent guidance.
Over the next few days as we lead up to #Pray4ThePresident I'll be highlighting a few things to consider when you pray for the leader of the free world.
- Pray that the President and our leaders will seek wise counsel - "For by wise counsel thou shalt make war: and in a multitude of counselors there is safety. (Proverbs 24:6)
- Pray that they have and demonstrate the wisdom of God -"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5)
These are just a few of many examples from the Bible. It seems pretty clear that anyone in a position of leadership and authority, no matter how skillful, would benefit from seeking the advice of wise counselors and from asking God for wisdom. Let's pray that our leaders and President Obama do just that!
